For the Giorgio Armani and YSL promotional holiday duo packaging, L’Oreal wanted to add a dimensional look and feel to the cartons by utilizing microetched embossing and foil effects.
Our Approach
- JohnsByrne received samples of patterns to match from L’Oreal and we worked with the die supplier to develop test dies for the brand to review to get the right amount of detail and effect they were looking to achieve
- For the Giorgio Armani folding carton, the dies are a combination of gold foil for the ‘GA’ logos and background dot pattern + single level embossing of those foil
stamped areas. The overall carton was embossed on the 1st pass with honeycomb pattern and on the 2nd pass, foil and single level embossing (foil areas) but doesn’t flatten out the microetched embossing so the foil areas still reflect the pattern. - For the YSL folding carton, the foil stamping of the “cross-hatch” lines, the flower and leaf / branch images were created using a combination of first-down metallic ink with gold foil stamped over and a microetched pattern embedded into the foil during the hot stamping process.
The Result
The final packages offer amazing detail and foil effects. Upon receiving production cartons, the brand said, ‘they look amazing’.
